Make it Transformational: A Blog for Champion Discipleship

Photographs That Help Engage Champions

Jan 2, 2010

It’s been said that a picture can paint a thousand words, and this fall I found this to be so true.

I received a gift in the form of a hardback (coffee table) book that was sent to me from my friend Joe Anfuso of Forward Edge International. This beautiful book contains over 1,700 photographs and is titled “Love in Action.” It contains very little text, but allows each photo to tell the story of what this ministry does and how their champions are engaging in a life of service to others.

As I looked through this book I was seeing people joining together, not to bring glory to Forward Edge International, but to join together through their engagement to be the hands and feet of Jesus and give Him the glory. FEI was simply the tool that helped these people to be able to do it. This was exactly what Jesus had taught us to do through this life. His purpose in coming was to give Himself away.

This book shows people building homes, schools and shelters that would help those without. You can see photos of children who need to be held and to play games with and many of these children are seen with big smiles and some with tears. There are photos that show those who need health care (dental and medical) and you can see a variety of individuals taking care of them through the dispensing of medications, providing urgent care, and performing surgeries to those who so desperately need help.

This book was designed to tell a story through pictures of what God has done through FEI and its champions and to give thanks. But I believe this book does more than give thanks, it provides opportunity for individuals to see how God might use them to connect with individuals in need.

On the last page of the book it has the word “Inspired” with a question mark beside it. And it encourages those who have just been moved by pictures to get involved and to join them to bring help and hope to people worldwide who desperately need help.

My question for you today is: Are your champions afforded opportunities to engage and serve with your cause?

If you aren’t able to answer this with an emphatic yes and to clearly explain the how, why and when, then I would like for you to consider attending our Engaged Champions - The heart of your development program workshop this month. This workshop will not only help you to understand why you should engage your champions to be involved with you, but it will help you to understand how your organization can provide opportunities as well.

When Jesus came to the earth He arrived with the purpose of giving Himself away. May this year 2010 be a year that your cause allows your champions the opportunity to be like Christ and to give themselves away as He would.

Thanks for sharing this, Trent. As someone who always carries pictures in my purse from CHOSEN's teen camps to help me have a visual tool to use if I get the chance to talk about our ministry, hearing about the book FEI has done got me thinking how CHOSEN might apply this concept. I went to the the Costco.com online photo service as I had seen a beautiful wedding book that was designed and purchased through them. It will be possible to have beautiful books made, small enough to easily fit in a purse, desk, or glovebox, for less than $12 each. CHOSEN is not in the position to make multiples of a large book for all our champions to have, however, it is definitely a possibility of having these smaller ones made for all our currently engaged champions.
I'm looking forward to learning about some other ways CHOSEN can engage champions at the next Mission Increase workshop.
Thank you again. We appreciate your ministry so much!
