Make it Transformational: A Blog for Champion Discipleship

Personal Coaching for Best Results!

Mar 2, 2010

Jonathan Roe, in his blog post on February 4th, talked about a change coming to the MIF teaching model which began last month.  Well, let me tell you that what we hoped would happen in these calls, indeed has!

MIF has moved from its bimonthly lab format to a personal coaching call format, in order to help each ministry apply the teaching material in its own unique way to its own unique organization.  And the ministries are loving it!

One of the first things I noticed, is that other staff are participating in the coaching call.  Even though only 1 or 2 staff were able to attend the workshop, they are inviting other staff to join in the discussion, after they have been briefed on the material.  This allows for a broader reach of the application and greater impact for the organization.  It puts everyone on the same page in their understanding of the concepts and allows for organizational buy-in when it comes to implementing change.

Another great benefit of the calls is the encouragement for the ministry staff to look at their particular issues or concerns and develop questions for discussion.  Those ministries that spend some time prior to the coaching call pulling together their thoughts on the subject matter are well prepared to take every benefit from the call itself.  And it encourages dialog among their staff, gaining valuable wisdom and insight from others.

The ideas and action steps that are discussed and developed during the call are providing tangible opportunities to move the ministry forward.  Whether a group call or with a single staff person, the lively discussions of brainstorming new ideas or enhancing old ones, have energized us all as we talk through the potential plans and strategies.  A key outcome is the actionable items that flow from the conversation and are outlined at the end of the call.  The ministry can walk away with specific plans to grow their champions.

With those ministries that meet our qualifications, we also talk through the granting opportunity that exists with MIF.  We are encouraged by those participating in workshops and coaching calls and wanting to grow their ministry through Transformational Giving.  It can be an encouraging conversation to share how they go about applying for a matching grant and talk through the impact this grant can have in building their internal capacity.

All in all, I’d say we have hit on something BIG!  We have a great opportunity to bless ministries with free training, coaching calls and possibly a cash matching grant.  It just doesn’t get any better than this!
