Grace and Truth Coaching |

About this time of year I purpose in my mind that I will not watch another season of American Idol. But, as the show begins I somehow get drawn into the new season by the audition shows. You know those shows where they go around the United States seeking talent (for the show) and they also find many individuals who can’t sing at all which they then exploit on national TV. At times I find it humorous, but mostly I find it heartbreaking that these individuals were never told the truth about their lack of singing talent. Who in the world reinforced this thinking, or more to the point who failed them in letting them know the truth.
This doesn’t only happen with an individual’s singing talent, but in many other areas of life as well. Family and friends who (in their minds) mean well, but in all actuality have failed to help them (or guide them) into putting their abilities into perspective and assisting them to where they can be successful and grow.
As you coach your champions you may find yourself in situations like this….you know a champion who wants to lead in an area where God hasn’t given them the talent or ability. What should you do? Do you allow a champion to miserably fail just because they believe they can do it? Or do you sit down with them and share grace and truth?
Randy Alcorn wrote a little book titled “Grace and Truth” which is very insightful. He illustrates throughout the book that grace and truth are inseparable if we want to see people grow. In the last chapter he writes, “People need the directions of truth to know where to go. Then they need the empowerment of grace to help them get there.”
As a leader of your cause you will be faced with situations like this as you coach your champions. Purpose in your heart and mind that you will help your champions grow even if it is difficult for you to share and for them to hear.
My challenge for you is summed up with these words Alcorn concludes his book with, “People thirst for the real Jesus. Nothing less can satisfy. Grace and truth are His fingerprints. We show people Jesus only when we show them grace and truth.”
