Make it Transformational: A Blog for Champion Discipleship

A cool mulberry with TG all over it

Jul 16, 2009

Several months back, Mission Increase Foundation taught on the topic of mulberrys.  You know, those neat little throw-away microsites that are designed for one specific purpose (check out my post from June 24 to read more about them).  Well, I recently received an email from one of our faithful workshop attendees who took us up on the challenge to create his own mulberry around a specific theme.  It’s so good I wanted to share it with you.

The mulberry was created by Tim Garrett with Camp Como in Central Colorado and it’s called Extreme Makeover - Camp Como Edition.  The site’s purpose is to engage people in a very tangible way, which is to help makeover cabins at the camp that are in great need of repairs and updates.  When you see this site, there’s no doubt what it’s about, what your role can be and how to start today.

Lots of fun little adds here too, like watching a video of what sort of projects you’d be doing, and seeing before and after pictures of what’s been done so far.  And I love that they encourage you to think beyond yourself – get your small group involved or your church involved!

Tim told me that since they got this mulberry up and started to promote it a few months ago two cabins have been adopted and “made over” by church groups.  They also have several other churches who have committed to adopting cabins that will be “made over” this fall.   What a great example of one of Transformational Giving Principle Six which states that it’s the champions, not the organization, who are called to be the primary means of advancing the cause within their sphere of influence.  These church groups are doing just that!
