At Mission Increase Foundation, we advocate a model of ministry in which the nonprofit invites and coaches people to do the ministry. Not give money to and offer prayers on behalf of the nonprofit so they can do it, but to do it themselves.
This model can be very appealing, as nonprofit leaders dream of equipping Owners to bring ever increasing numbers of people from their spheres of influence to participate with the cause.
This is indeed the goal, but we shouldn't kid ourselves about...

I regularly hear about and come across traditional/transactional fundraising (ttf) techniques and events that are predictably ineffective. Earlier this week, a SF Chronicle headline caught my attention: ‘Raffle for Marin ‘Dream House’ Benefits Charity.’
I was intrigued. Author Dana Perrigan opens the piece as follows:
“Not many dreams come with a view. Or an elevator. This one – all 3,200 square feet of it – has both.”

Years ago I worked in the development department for a large rescue mission in Los Angeles where we would serve turkey dinners to 10,000 homeless people the day before Thanksgiving. As you can imagine, these events were massive undertakings, and hundreds of volunteers signed up months in advance to help us pull it off.
